Technically yes, but the practical use is limited to specific situations. Paying via the app does not require you to be physically in the city [1].
When It Makes Sense to Pay From Another City
| Situation | Does It Make Sense? | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Regularize a TPU from a previous day | Yes | You got a notice yesterday and have already returned home in another city |
| Activate for someone else | Yes | A relative parked and has no app |
| Pay "preventively" | No | There's no reason to pay without being parked |
| Activate without being in the zone | Doesn't work | GPS may block it or create an inconsistency |
How It Works Technically
Digipare and other Zona Azul apps record the payment tied to the license plate, not to the GPS location of the phone making the payment. This means that:
- You can be in São Paulo and pay a TPU in Campinas
- A relative can activate Zona Azul for your car from anywhere
- The system accepts the payment regardless of where the phone is
Limitations
Some apps require GPS location confirmation for new activations (not for regularizations). This prevents fraudulent activations in zones where the vehicle is not actually parked.
Digipare allows remote TPU regularization from anywhere in Brazil, making life easier for those who travel frequently between cities [2].
